August 7, 2008
Hello, my name is Marilyn Hemingway from Georgetown, the third oldest city in the state of South Carolina. I am very excited to be an At-large delegate for John Edwards to the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver. I look forward to being a part of national history as we move to make Senator Barack Obama the first African American nominee of a major political party. And of course, onward to victory on Tuesday, November 4!!!
In 2004, I was a delegate to the national convention in Boston and had a great time in that beautiful, historic city. Denver, Colorado is another great city with history and beautiful vistas and is a wonderful place to have our Democratic National Convention in 2008. I believe we are going to win some Midwestern states in November. Colorado residents and a national audience will get a chance to hear and see the issues of the Democratic National Party. I believe our issues ARE the issues concerning the people of the United States of America.
Not only am I looking forward to the politics and nomination but I intend on enjoying the sites and sounds of the local area. I have been looking at brochures of the various activities, parties, landmarks and cities in Colorado. In the last year, I have started hiking as a new exercise and I look forward to making some quick hikes in Denver and the surrounding areas.
Just a little bit about me…I am 43 years old and have been involved in politics for at least 30 years through volunteer activities, as a campaign staff person. I was very excited to receive my voter registration form on my 18th birthday in 1983. I have voted in every Presidential election since that time. In 2004, my mother, 3 nieces and a nephew traveled to Boston with me. Unfortunately because of cost and school start dates, they will not be able to make it to Denver. However, they have assured me that they will look for me on television and that I need to bring back lots of Obama buttons and bumper stickers. Yes, I will!
I have noticed South Carolina’s 2008 state delegation is comprised of a lot of new faces. This brings in new energy, ideas and strength to our party. In the long run, every citizen of South Carolina will benefit from the diverse group of delegates who truly represent our state. I am proud to be a part of the SC delegation and I to honor my family, friends and fellow Democrats at the National Convention. Yes, I am excited about the National Convention. Yes, I am fired up and ready to go to victory in November!! See you in Denver!!

Hi Marilyn,
Rielle and I really appreciate those campaign donations, they really have helped with the rent money. We took some new baby pictures in the California house nursery, better than Enquirer’s. We’ll get them to you in the snail mail. Most folks say she looks just like Dad. I hope she gets my hair (Reille’s is OK, but mine is better).
Enjoy the convention.
John
