George W. “Compassionate” Bush, our beloved “no child left behind” president, has vetoed the expansion of the State Children’s Health Insurance Program.
This bill was designed to protect 10.6 million children whose families cannot afford private insurance, whereas the current program protects only 6.6 million.
The cost of the bill for one year would approximately equal the cost of the war in Iraq and Afghanistan for one month, but President Bush claims that is far too much money for the U.S. government to spend on children’s health care.
Even more appalling is the fact that our four S.C. Republican congressmen and our two senators voted against this bill, agreeing with President Bush not to add 70,000 S.C. minors to the 61,000 currently insured under SCHIP.
Pressure must be put on our Republican congressmen, urging them to support this legislation when it comes up for a veto override vote. They need to learn that they are not representing their constituencies by denying health insurance to our children.
We have the power now to put pressure on our congressmen.
I urge everyone to exercise their power through calls, letters, e-mails and, just as important, their vote.

SCHIP also protects disabled adults who are rated by insurance companies and are unable to buy insurance. In the state of SC, no adult will be allowed to obtain Medicaid assistance without a Social Security hearing. SSA holds up all claims. COBRA ends. So SCHIP is mandatory to keep.
You see, I was previously court awarded disability by Judge Mason here in Columbia in 1987. I went back to work like SSA asks all disabled people to do. But I had a lifetime illness and SSA knew that. It would be no surprise to see my application again at SSA.
However, after working as a professional RN scrubbing angioplasties and taking care of sick sick people in ICU’s, when I got sick again, there was NOTHING for me.
I was forced to wait almost three years for a hearing in Columbia. Then I was denied the entire period. I was forced to give up two years of benefits to get the claim approved.I call it disability discrimination. But wait, there is more…… SSA lost the entire file. All my medical and psychiatric information along with my checking account information and all other identifying data are just gone……. but it’s no big deal. No Hipaa or Privacy Rules have been enforced. But wait, there is more…….
I forced SSA into an Appeal and got fake unsigned Remand orders…. again, it’s no big deal, right?
SC Republicans are protecting the discriminatory Judge that would not accept his senior and fellow Judge’s award as evidence in my second SSA disability application.
Anybody got any ideas how a disabled person should prove a lifelong disability to these Judges in Columbia? They don’t honor their own orders, they loose all your information and then it’s all supposed to be ok that you lost two disability income policies during this fiasco and had your benefits decreased, had your name put in three Medicare Part D plans, pay three premiums every month but have no coverage at the drug store all year and then someone removes your SSN from Medicare.
Republicans are not doing their jobs. They are allowing the terrorists to win the war. Bush said…… ” the terrorists want to change our way of life”
I see that the terrorists already won…….. at least in my life at my house……… but I am certainly changing the defining line on terrorists.
But back to SCHIP, we must work to keep SCHIP as an option for human beings like me.
I only wonder why noone speaks that SCHIP is underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield so limiting enrollment increases their bottom line…… let’s say it out loud.
