For one reason, they set rules that really prohibit debate. They aren’t allowed to speak or question each other (not necessarily a bad thing) or really challenge much of what each other says. Also, it’s the first time out together and it’s clear the gloves are still on.

This is a bit inane, but another thing I am noticing tonight is a lot less eye-contact with the camera. For the most part, they are all answering the moderators, not addressing the camera. Not sure if that’s significant, but I think that everything is so calculated, like what they wear, the hand gestures…. I tend to think that it is calculated not to look at the camera in this debate. Maybe they save that for the debates between the nominees….

There’s so many of them on the stage, it would turn into a brawl if it wasn’t controlled.

So the debate is leaving the Dems and moving to a debate with Guliani? Right on, Hillary, for your response to Mayor Guliani’s statement that US citizens are more secure with a Republican than a Democratic president. I say balogna!

Chris Dodd was willing to make a firm statement: I believe civil unions are appropriate and proper. Nothing wishy washy there!
